Chateau Labegorce - Margaux 2014

The 2014 Labegorce is one those “dark horses” of the vintage, a wine that has a prosperous future. It has a lovely, very pure and sensual bouquet with lifted redcurrant and wild strawberry scents that really evoke the essence of Margaux. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, well -udged acidity, good concentration with a satisfying raspberry preserve-infused finish that demonstrates superb persistence. I adored this Labegorce from barrel and now in bottle it does nothing to disprove my initial enthusiasm.   Robert Parker: 93Pts; Wine Enthusiast: 92Pts; James Suckling: 90Pts; Wine Spectator: 90Pts

Bordering on chateaux Margaux and Lascombes, this property is mentioned in the 1868 edition of Cocks and Feret (“Bordeaux and its Wines”), which tells us of the existence since 1332 of “a vineyard belonging to the noble La Begorce family”. The chateau is described as “... one of the most beautiful and best situated in the town of Margaux”.

The Perrodo family acquired Labegorce in 1989 and renovated not only the chateau building, but also the vineyard. They also improved winemaking, and Labegorce is now a charming wine with beautiful structure, bright fruit, and great finesse. The Perrodo family also acquired in 2006 Chateau Marquis d’Alesme, a third growth Margaux, which they aim to transform into one of the jewels of the appellation.
