This 100% Grenache is a blockbuster in the making. Energetic, mineral-accented aromas of ripe red/dark berries, complicated by suggestions of incense and pungent flowers. Broad and fleshy on entry, then more taut on the midpalate, offering pliant black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a suggestion of five-spice powder. Finishes very long and sweet, featuring slow-building tannins, a touch of smokiness and repeating red fruit character. It’s a remarkable Gigondas that’s up with the finest wines in the vintage.
L’Argnee is a small plot of less than 1 hectare of pre-Phyloxera vines, dating back more than 100 years old, Located at the South-Western end of the Appellation, at the heart of the historical village of Gigondas. The yields are very small, the wines are aged for 1 year in 2nd year large oak barrels, and the production is limited to 1,500 bottles a year.
