Castelgiocondo is produced from an uncompromising selection of the finest Sangiovese grapes, in a vineyard whose ideal elevation, well-drained soils, and southwest-facing exposure yield all of the qualities that converge to produce the finest expression of this ancient grape variety. CastelGiocondo’s unique location in Montalcino, with its varied exposure and terrain – galestro, clay and Pleocene sands – offers infinite nuances to this Brunello. A multi-faceted experience that evolves over time and entices us to discover, taste and remember, again and again. CastelGiocondo 2017 has an intense, bright ruby-red colour. Like every vintage, 2017 brought with it a wonderfully elegant quality. The bouquet features fruity aromas, particularly at the beginning, with notes of raspberry, blackcurrant and even pomegranate. The beautifully harmonious and alluring hints of violet and rose are truly wonderful. Gradually, its maturity becomes truly remarkable, revealing spiced hints of white pepper, clove and star anise, toasted notes and more complex roasted notes and hints of liquorice. On the palate, the tannic structure is dense and the mineral quality is wonderful. This is an incredibly harmonious wine with a long, persistent finish. The history of the Frescobaldi family starts over a thousand years ago and is closely connected with the history of Tuscany, with the wine involvement dating back to at least 1308. At the high point of medieval Florence, the Frescobaldi's spread their influence as bankers, earning the title of treasures to the English crown. Today, they intend for the different family estates, with their vineyards, to be the expression of this diversity and for the wines to reflect each individual terroir, respecting their nature and authenticity. They own 11 estates in Tuscany, all running independently. That includes Ornellaia & Masseto, 2 of the most revered Super-Tuscan wines.
