The Castiglioni estate has been the emblem of the Frescobaldi family’s wine-growing tradition since 1300. The production of wines linked to the region of Tuscany, enjoyed by the papal court and the English court of Henry VIII in the 16th century, began here.
The rich Super-Tuscan Tenuta Frescobaldi di Castiglioni, this estate’s iconic wine, is clearly in a modern key, but holds fast to the qualities of its local terroir. Tenuta Frescobaldi di Castiglioni boasts a splendid purple-red, with violet highlights. Beautiful, bright ruby-red colour with tinges of purple. The bouquet offers intense aromas of blackberries and blackcurrants blending together with notes of pepper, cloves and subtle hints of liquorice. The attack is smooth and enveloping, with atouch of acidity that gives it a wonderful freshness and along, persistent and spicy finish.

The history of the Frescobaldi family starts over a thousand years ago and is closely connected with the history of Tuscany, with the wine involvement dating back to at least 1308. At the high point of medieval Florence, the Frescobaldi’s spread their influence as bankers, earning the title of treasures to the English crown. Today, they intend for the different family estates, with their vineyards, to be the expression of this diversity and for the wines to reflect each individual terroir, respecting their nature and authenticity. They own 11 estates in Tuscany, all running independently. That includes Ornellaia & Masseto, 2 of the most revered Super-Tuscan wines.
