Mas de la Rosa is an old vineyard now owned by Familia Torres. This incomparable Priorat enclave is home to Garnacha Tinta and Carinena vines that are more than 80 years old. The exceptional Priorat terroir and a selection of the most exquisite grapes provide the inspiration for this project, a limited edition of our Priorat icon wine. The vineyard is known as Coster (a Catalan word that denotes a steep slope). The soil is shallow and comprised of only one horizon, with bedrock immediately underneath (about 10-15 cm). It is relatively acidic, with low organic matter derived from weathered llicorella, a type of dark copper-coloured laminated rock. The vines spread their roots around the rocky layers in search of moisture, water and nutrients. Even today the vineyards here are worked by hand and mule, revealing a cultural winegrowing landscape where time seems to have stood still for centuries. 2016 only brought 2,059 bottles of Mas de la Rosa. the wines was aged in French barrels for 16 months, Very fresh and sumptuous, very unlike most Priorats. Polished, very long and exceptionally fresh. Miguel Torres Maczassek is clearly very proud of this new, fresh style: ‘it’s all about fruit character’.   Decanter: 94Pts; Wine Advocate: 94+Pts; James Suckling: 90Pts; Jancis Robinson: 17+Pts
